Brandon Continued Craft Flint Knapping Norfolk Skill Suffolk
17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative photograph, a skilled flint knapper is intently focused on his work at Brandon, Suffolk, England, in the 1950s. The ancient craft of flint knapping, a traditional industry that involves shaping and fashioning flint into tools and weapons, continues to be practiced in nearby Norfolk. With the sun casting long shadows and the wind gently rustling the leaves, the knapper's concentration is undisturbed as he deftly strikes the flint with a hammerstone, sending sparks flying. The flint knapper's hands move with a practiced ease, each strike bringing the rough flint closer to its desired shape. The air is filled with the sound of hammerstones striking flint, a rhythmic symphony of ancient craftsmanship. The scene is a testament to the enduring nature of traditional skills and the deep connection between humans and their environment. Flint knapping is believed to date back to the Stone Age, making it one of the oldest industries known to man. It was once a vital part of daily life, providing early humans with the tools they needed to hunt, farm, and build. Though its commercial use has largely been replaced by modern manufacturing processes, the craft continues to be practiced by dedicated enthusiasts in Norfolk, keeping alive the ancient techniques passed down through generations. This photograph captures a moment in time, a glimpse into the past, and a reminder of the rich history and traditions that continue to shape our world. The flint knapper's dedication to his craft is a testament to the human spirit and our innate desire to create, innovate, and connect with the natural world around us.
