1881 1955 Alexander Bacteriologist Desk Fleming Microscope Rolled Sleeves

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Sir Alexander Fleming: A Pioneer in Microbiology at His Desk with His Microscope, 1955 This evocative black-and-white photograph captures Sir Alexander Fleming, the renowned Scottish bacteriologist, deep in thought at his cluttered laboratory desk. Born on August 6, 1881, Fleming is best known for his discovery of penicillin, the world's first antibiotic. The image, taken in 1955, shows Fleming in the twilight of his career, his sleeves rolled up, intently studying a petri dish through his microscope. The historical significance of this photograph lies in the fact that it encapsulates the spirit of scientific discovery and the relentless pursuit of knowledge that characterized Fleming's life. The presence of the microscope, a tool that revolutionized the field of microbiology, underscores the importance of this pioneering scientist's contributions to the scientific community. Fleming's desk is a testament to the chaotic yet methodical nature of scientific research. The cluttered surface is strewn with papers, test tubes, and various scientific instruments, all bearing witness to the countless hours of experimentation and discovery that took place in this very room. The photograph also serves as a reminder of the human element of scientific research. Fleming's focused expression and the furrowed lines on his forehead suggest the intense concentration required to make groundbreaking discoveries. His worn lab coat and the creases on his face attest to the long hours spent in the lab, driven by a passion for knowledge and a desire to improve human health. In summary, this photograph of Sir Alexander Fleming at his desk with his microscope offers a glimpse into the life of a scientific pioneer, highlighting the importance of his discoveries and the enduring allure of scientific exploration.
