23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative image, we find ourselves transported back to the late ninth century AD, as we behold the resolute and determined visage of King Ethelred I of Wessex, also known as Athelred or Etelred, the Unready (not to be confused with his namesake, Ethelred II the Unready of the eleventh century). Born in the crucible of the Viking Age, Ethelred rose to the throne in 865, following the death of his father, Alfred the Great. During his reign, which lasted until his death in 871, Ethelred faced numerous challenges from the Danish invaders who had been plundering and settling in various parts of England. In 868, he successfully drove the Danes out of Mercia, a significant victory that bolstered his reputation as a capable and effective ruler. However, the Danes were not deterred, and they regrouped under the leadership of Guthrum, the Danish warlord. In 871, Ethelred and his brother Alfred joined forces to confront the Danes at the Battle of Edington, also known as the Battle of Ashdown. This decisive battle, fought on the downs of Wiltshire, marked a turning point in the Anglo-Saxon struggle against the Danes. Ethelred and Alfred emerged victorious, and Guthrum was forced to withdraw from England, leaving behind a trail of destruction and devastation. This image captures the essence of a pivotal moment in Anglo-Saxon history, as King Ethelred I, a brave and tenacious ruler, stands firm against the backdrop of the battlefield, ready to defend his people and his kingdom against the Danish invaders. Despite the challenges that lay ahead, Ethelred's determination and resolve would continue to shape the course of Anglo-Saxon history, earning him a place among the most revered figures of British royalty.
