23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this illustration from 1908, two English girls are seen playing Diabolo, a traditional Chinese spinning top toy, on the roof of a building in Tabriz, Iran. The carefree scene is in stark contrast to the tense political climate of the region, as evidenced by the artillery gun, manned by Persian Revolutionaries, standing by for action against Persian Royalists in the background. Tabriz, the largest city in Iran's Eastern Azerbaijan Province, was a significant center of the Persian Revolution, which lasted from 1905 to 1911. The revolution aimed to overthrow the Qajar dynasty and establish a constitutional monarchy. The presence of the English girls in the city during this time highlights the complex international relationships and political maneuverings that were taking place. The Diabolo, also known as the Chinese Yo-Yo, was a popular toy in Europe and the Americas during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its simplicity and entertainment value made it a favorite among children and adults alike. The girls' playful interaction with the toy adds a sense of normalcy and lightheartedness to the image, offering a brief respite from the political turmoil that surrounded them. The illustration, which is part of the ILLUSTRATIONS OF INTEREST series from the Illustrated London News, provides a unique glimpse into a pivotal moment in Iranian history. The combination of the girls' playful activity and the backdrop of political unrest offers a poignant reminder of the complexities and contradictions that often accompany historical events.
