23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Sir Edward John Poynter (1836-1919), a renowned English painter of historical subjects and the esteemed Director of the National Gallery from 1894 to 1904, is captured in this intimate portrait as he sits in deep concentration over his easel. The image, taken in 1897, shows Poynter in the prime of his career, with a palette of rich colors before him, brushes at the ready, and a mahlstick poised for stability. The historical significance of the scene is further emphasized by the artist's formal attire and the ornate room surroundings, which suggest a grandeur that reflects the importance of his role in the art world. Poynter's contributions to the art community were significant, both as a painter and as a leader. His works, which often depicted scenes from mythology and history, were praised for their meticulous attention to detail and their ability to evoke emotion. As Director of the National Gallery, he oversaw the acquisition of numerous important works and played a key role in shaping the institution's collection and reputation. This photograph offers a rare glimpse into the life of a man who played a pivotal role in the artistic and cultural landscape of late 19th-century England. The image invites us to contemplate the creative process and the dedication required to bring history to life through art.
