17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This image is a Victorian-era drawing by Alfred Waterhouse (1830-1905) for the ornamentation of the windows on the first floor south front of the Natural History Museum in London, created in 1875. The intricately detailed design showcases an eagle, a majestic bird of prey from the Accipitridae family, which is part of the larger order of birds known as Accipitriformes, Sauropsida, Aves, or reptile-descended warm-blooded vertebrates. Waterhouse's illustration exudes the grandeur and sophistication of the Victorian era, with the eagle's powerful form and piercing gaze evoking a sense of strength and nobility. The eagle's wings are spread wide, as if ready to take flight, while its sharp talons are poised to grasp its prey. The intricate feather patterns and textured details of the eagle's body are rendered with remarkable precision, making this drawing a true masterpiece of 19th-century ornamental art. The eagle was a common motif in Victorian decorative arts, symbolizing power, freedom, and the pursuit of knowledge. In the context of the Natural History Museum, the inclusion of this eagle design in the museum's windows reflects the institution's commitment to the study and preservation of natural history, as well as its status as a symbol of knowledge and discovery during the Victorian era. This stunning drawing is a testament to the artistic vision and craftsmanship of Alfred Waterhouse, and a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of the Victorian era. It continues to inspire and captivate viewers today, offering a glimpse into the past and a celebration of the beauty and power of nature.
