Drifting Match Puck

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "A Drifting Match: Theodore Roosevelt's Smile Upon the Calm Racers" Date: July 18, 1906 Description: This illustration depicts an unusual scene from a drifting match that took place on the waters of the Potomac River during the summer of 1906. Five small boats, each carrying notable political figures of the time, are seen drifting aimlessly in the still waters. The boats are identified with their respective yacht clubs' banners: Buckeye YC (William H. Taft in Gnat), Danville YC (Joseph G. Cannon in Scat), Big Darby YC (Charles W. Fairbanks in Ice King), and Pshaw (Leslie M. Shaw in Pshaw). Elihu Root is in the boat named after himself. The unique aspect of this drifting match is the serene presence of Theodore Roosevelt, whose face fills the sun in the sky. His warm, approving smile radiates down upon the becalmed racers, as if bestowing his blessings upon their endeavor. This image encapsulates the camaraderie and lightheartedness that could be found even amidst the political landscape of the early 20th century. The illustration, reminiscent of a cartoon or a Puck magazine cover, adds a playful touch to the historical record. It serves as a reminder that even the most serious of figures, like these political heavyweights, could find joy and relaxation on the water. This image is a testament to the human spirit and the ability to find amusement in unexpected circumstances. The drifting match may not have been a traditional race, but the memories and moments shared by these men on the Potomac that day are surely unforgettable.
