Community Drain Drainage Grid Iron Needham Sewers Stockport Supply

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "A 19th Century Drainage Grid: A Community's Unseen Hero in Needham, Stockport" This photograph from the 19th century, sourced from Mary Evans Picture Library, offers a fascinating glimpse into the intricate network of iron and metal drainage grids that once played a crucial role in the daily lives of communities like Needham in Stockport. The image reveals a meticulously crafted drainage grid, its iron bars arranged in a precise grid-like pattern, designed to facilitate the efficient flow of water and sewage. The grid, which appears to be located in a residential area, underscores the importance of water management and sanitation during a time when such systems were rapidly evolving. The 19th century marked a significant period in the history of water supply and drainage, as urbanization led to the growth of cities and the need for more advanced systems to manage the increasing demand for clean water and effective sewage disposal. The use of cast iron and other metals for the construction of drainage grids became a popular solution due to their durability and resistance to corrosion. This photograph serves as a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the people of Needham, Stockport, who worked together to ensure the well-being of their community by implementing such advanced infrastructure. The drainage grid, though unseen and often overlooked, played a vital role in maintaining the health and sanitation of the town, making it an essential component of daily life. The intricate design of the grid, with its neatly arranged bars and precise alignment, speaks to the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into its construction. This photograph not only offers a glimpse into the past but also serves as a reminder of the importance of infrastructure in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of communities.
