17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative portrait, Denis Diderot, the renowned French encyclopaedist and philosopher, is depicted in a round profile view. Born on October 5, 1713, in Langres, France, Diderot's intellectual curiosity and passion for knowledge would shape his life's work. He began his career as a teacher before turning to translation, which led him to collaborate with Jean le Rond d'Alembert on the monumental project of the Encyclopédie, or the System of Universal Knowledge. The image captures Diderot in the prime of his life, with a thoughtful expression and a lock of hair falling across his forehead. He wears a simple white shirt, a black waistcoat, and a ribbon adorned with a bow around his neck. The background is plain, allowing the subject to take center stage. Diderot's contributions to the Encyclopédie were groundbreaking, as he sought to make knowledge accessible to the general public. He championed the Enlightenment ideals of reason, individual liberty, and secularism, which challenged the established order of the Ancien Régime. His writings on art, literature, and philosophy have left an indelible mark on Western thought. As the editor-in-chief of the Encyclopédie, Diderot oversaw the publication of this comprehensive work from 1751 to 1772. The project brought together some of the most brilliant minds of the age, including Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Rousseau. This portrait, likely taken during the height of his intellectual endeavors, serves as a testament to Diderot's enduring legacy as a pioneering figure in the history of ideas.
