Advanced Decimus Gaul Latin Magnus Tutor Gratian Rhetorician

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Decimus Magnus Ausonius: A Prominent Latin Poet and Rhetorician from Gaul Decimus Magnus Ausonius, depicted in this evocative portrait, was a renowned Latin poet and rhetorician hailing from the region of Gaul during the late Roman Empire. Born around 310 AD, Ausonius rose to prominence through his exceptional skills in rhetoric and poetry, earning him the position of tutor to the future Roman Emperor Gratian. Ausonius' historical significance lies in his contributions to Latin literature and education during a pivotal time in Roman history. He is best known for his poetic works, which include the "Mosella," a descriptive poem about the Moselle River, and the "Parentalia," a collection of elegies dedicated to his deceased parents. His poetic style was characterized by its elegance, wit, and profound understanding of the Latin language. As a rhetorician, Ausonius was a master of the art of persuasive speaking and writing. He is believed to have written numerous works on rhetoric, including "Professor of Rhetoric," which provides valuable insights into the teaching methods of the time. Ausonius' connection to Gratian proved to be a turning point in his career. After Gratian's election as Emperor in 375 AD, he advanced Ausonius to the position of Praetorian Prefect of Gaul, a high-ranking administrative post. This appointment allowed Ausonius to further influence Roman society and politics, and he continued to write and teach during his tenure. This portrait of Decimus Magnus Ausonius captures the wisdom and intellectual prowess of a man who left an indelible mark on the literary and educational landscape of the late Roman Empire. His works continue to be studied and appreciated today, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of ancient Rome.
