23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured lithograph depicts various extinct species of Cystoidea, a class of stalked echinoderms, as illustrated by the renowned German naturalist Ernst Haeckel in his groundbreaking work "Kunstformen der Natur" (Art Forms in Nature) between 1899 and 1904. The image showcases the intricate and otherworldly beauty of these ancient marine organisms, which were part of the Blastozoa subclass within the Phylum Echinodermata. Cystoidea were characterized by their elongated, stalked bodies and complex, branching arms adorned with numerous small, tube feet. These creatures lived on the ocean floor, anchored to the seabed by their stems. The precise details in Haeckel's illustration reveal the delicate structures of their arms, which were covered in tiny, pore-like openings, as well as their distinctive oral and aboral surfaces. The extinction of Cystoidea remains a mystery, with some theories suggesting that they may have vanished during the Late Devonian or Early Carboniferous periods. Regardless, their existence left a lasting impression on the scientific community, inspiring generations of naturalists and artists alike. Ernst Haeckel, a pioneering figure in the fields of biology, anthropology, and philosophy, was a key figure in the development of modern scientific illustration. His meticulous observations and innovative techniques brought new life to the study of natural history, and his work continues to captivate audiences today. This stunning lithograph is a testament to Haeckel's unwavering dedication to documenting the wonders of the natural world. It serves as a reminder of the rich history of life that once inhabited our planet, as well as the importance of continued exploration and discovery.
