17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Easter Sunday, 1902: A Botanical Delight in the Wardroom of the Polar Research Ship Discovery This illustration, published in the Illustrated London News on January 25, 1903, offers a rare glimpse into the wardroom of the Polar Research Ship Discovery during a moment of unexpected beauty and camaraderie. The scene unfolds on Easter Sunday, 1902, as several of the ship's officers gather around the dining table, their faces filled with curiosity and excitement. Why the unusual gathering, you ask? The answer lies in the pots of crocuses that have been artfully arranged on the table. These delicate spring blooms, with their vibrant purple and white hues, have somehow found their way onto the ship, bringing a burst of color and life to the otherwise monochromatic world of the polar expedition. The officers, dressed in their formal attire, can be seen climbing onto the table to get a closer look at the blooms, their expressions reflecting a sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty of nature, even amidst the harsh conditions of the polar voyage. The image serves as a poignant reminder of the human spirit's ability to find joy and connection in the most unexpected places. The Polar Research Ship Discovery, commanded by the renowned polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott, embarked on its fateful journey to the Antarctic in late 1901. This illustration, a testament to the crew's resilience and their appreciation for the simple pleasures in life, offers a unique window into the history of polar exploration and the enduring allure of the natural world.
