17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handcolored copperplate engraving showcases the striking features of the Crested Wood-Partridge (Rollulus rouloul), a Near Threatened species of bird native to the forests of Central and South America. The illustration is taken from George Shaw and Frederick Nodder's "The Naturalist's Miscellany," published in 1792. The Crested Wood-Partridge is easily identified by its distinctive crest, which is raised when the bird feels threatened. The male and female of the species exhibit different plumage, with the male displaying a glossy black body, white underparts, and a bright red face, while the female has a brown body with a white belly and a brown head. The Crested Wood-Partridge is a forest-dwelling bird, and its diet consists mainly of fruits, seeds, and insects. They are known to be shy and elusive, making them difficult to spot in their natural habitat. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as hunting pressure, the population of the Crested Wood-Partridge has declined, and it is currently classified as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This beautiful engraving not only serves as a testament to the natural history of the Crested Wood-Partridge but also highlights the intricacy and detail of the illustrations produced during the 18th century. The use of handcoloring adds a vibrant and lifelike quality to the image, making it a valuable addition to any natural history collection.
