17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative illustration, created around 1887, captures the tense atmosphere of the final stages of the Apache-United States War in Southern Arizona and Northern Sonora, Mexico. The image portrays several determined cowboys, their faces etched with the grit and resilience of the American frontier, standing guard over their ranch. The rugged landscape of the American Southwest, with its arid terrain and towering mountains, serves as a stark backdrop to the unfolding scene. At this time, the United States Army and the Apache Native Americans were locked in a bitter conflict, with skirmishes and raids becoming increasingly common. The cowboys, as protectors of the land and its resources, played a crucial role in defending their ranches and communities against the Apache raids. The illustration underscores the importance of their presence and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding their livelihoods. The Apache, a proud and resourceful people, had long resisted encroachment on their ancestral lands. The conflict between the two groups was a complex one, rooted in a clash of cultures and a struggle for resources. This historical image offers a glimpse into a pivotal moment in the American West, a time when the lines between settlers and indigenous peoples were blurred, and the future of the region hung in the balance. The illustration, made in the late 19th century, is a poignant reminder of the rich history of the American West and the enduring spirit of those who lived and worked there. It stands as a testament to the courage and determination of the cowboys who guarded their ranches, and to the complex and often tumultuous history of the region.
