17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
When a Cook is Roused," an evocative and intriguing image from the annals of historical culinary art, captures the essence of a bygone era in the world of professional kitchens. The photograph, taken in the late 19th or early 20th century, depicts a cook in the midst of being roused from his slumber, startled from his peaceful rest by the clanging of a large kitchen bell. The cook, dressed in a white apron and a heavy, woolen cap, sits up in his bed, his eyes wide with surprise and disbelief. The room around him is dimly lit, with a single candle casting long, flickering shadows on the rough, plastered walls. The image offers a rare glimpse into the daily life of a cook in a large, historic kitchen. At the time, professional cooks often worked long hours, sometimes starting their shifts as early as 4 a.m. and working well into the evening. To ensure that they were punctual and ready to start their day, kitchen staff were woken up by a loud, persistent bell, which could be heard throughout the entire kitchen complex. The photograph also provides a fascinating insight into the living conditions of cooks during this period. Many kitchens were located in separate buildings from the main house, and cooks were often provided with small, cramped living quarters. Despite the challenging conditions, the cook in the photograph appears to be taking the interruption in his sleep in stride, a testament to the resilience and dedication of the men and women who kept the great houses of the past running smoothly. Overall, "When a Cook is Roused" is a captivating and evocative image that offers a unique window into the world of historic kitchens and the daily lives of the cooks who worked in them. The photograph's timeless quality and intriguing subject matter make it a must-have for any collection focused on historical culinary art or the social history of food and cooking.
