17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures Colonel Francis Worgan Festing (1833-1886) of the Royal Marine Artillery at the age of 41, a time when he had already made a significant mark on military history. The image shows Colonel Festing with a full beard, dressed in the uniform of the Royal Marine Artillery. Colonel Festing's most notable achievement came in 1874, during the Anglo-Ashanti War, when he distinguished himself in the heroic rescue of the body of Lieutenant Eardley-Wilmot from the Ashantees at Dunquah. For his bravery and endeavors during this campaign, he was awarded the Order of the Bath and the Order of St. Michael and St. George. The Order of the Bath is a British chivalric order founded by King George I in 1725, and the Order of St. Michael and St. George is a British order of chivalry founded by King George IV in 1818. Both orders are given in recognition of distinguished services rendered to the Sovereign or to the United Kingdom. Colonel Festing's heroism at Dunquah was just one of many accomplishments in his military career. He joined the Royal Marine Artillery in 1852 and saw action in various campaigns throughout his career, including the Crimean War and the Abyssinian Expedition. He rose through the ranks, becoming a colonel in 1872. This photograph is a testament to Colonel Festing's courage and dedication to his country. It is a valuable historical record of a remarkable military figure, and a reminder of the important role the Royal Marine Artillery played in defending the British Empire during the late 19th century.
