1830 Carried Casualty Revolution

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant image captures the raw reality of the French Revolution, as a wounded soldier is carried away from the chaotic scene of street fighting on a makeshift chair. The date is July 1830, and the revolution, which began in 1789, is still raging on. The soldier, aged 27, wears the uniform of the French army, indicating that this is likely a battle between royalist and republican forces. The chairborne casualty, as such scenes were often referred to, is a stark reminder of the human cost of the revolution. The historical significance of this photograph is immense, as it provides a glimpse into one of the most pivotal moments in European history. The French Revolution, which lasted from 1789 to 1799, brought about the end of the Bourbon monarchy and the rise of the modern French state. It was a time of great upheaval, marked by political instability, social unrest, and widespread violence. This photograph, taken in the early 1830s, is a testament to the bravery and resilience of the soldiers who fought in the revolution. It also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by ordinary people during times of political upheaval. The image is particularly evocative, with the contrast between the chaotic scene in the background and the stillness of the chair and the soldier, who appears to be in a state of shock or unconsciousness. This photograph, from the Mary Evans Picture Library, is a valuable historical resource, offering a unique perspective on one of the most significant events in modern European history. It is a reminder of the importance of preserving historical records, as they provide valuable insights into the past and help us to better understand the world we live in today.
