17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This cartoon, entitled "Mrs. Weldon's Defacing Act: A Symbolic Gesture of Victorian Musical Rivalry," depicts the renowned classical singer, Georgina Weldon, in an unusual setting. With a determined expression and a palette of black paint in hand, she stands before a bust of the esteemed French composer, Charles Gounod. The year is 1882, and the atmosphere is charged with the tension of musical rivalry and the occasional lawsuits and libel cases that were not uncommon in the profession during the 1880s. Georgina Weldon, known for her gentle demeanor and captivating voice, was a woman of strength and resilience. However, her reputation was not without blemish. She was frequently involved in legal disputes with her colleagues, sometimes resulting in her imprisonment. In this cartoon, the artist, Terry Parker, masterfully captures the symbolic act of defacing the bust of Gounod as a representation of the intense competition and animosity that existed among musicians of the time. The cartoon's title, "Mrs. Weldon's Defacing Act," alludes to the theatrical term "entr'acte," which refers to the intermission between acts in a play. This connection further emphasizes the theatrical nature of the musical world and the drama that often unfolded behind the scenes. As we observe this intriguing scene, we are reminded of the complexities and intrigues that surrounded the lives of these Victorian musicians and the lengths they would go to protect their reputations and secure their place in the musical world.
