17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the industrial landscape of Port Talbot, West Glamorgan, South Wales, in the late 1960s. The view showcases the British Steel Corporation (BSC) works, a dominant feature of the town's skyline. The image is framed by rows of terraced houses in the foreground, their dark, weathered exteriors a stark contrast to the pristine white walls of the BSC buildings. The ominous cloud hanging above the town adds an ominous tone to the scene. This is not just any cloud, but a dark, dense plume of pollution, a byproduct of the heavy industrial processes taking place at the works. Smoke from the chimneys of the steel mills contributes to the gloomy atmosphere, further emphasizing the industrial nature of the town. The historical significance of this photograph lies in its portrayal of a time when the industrial sector was a major economic driver in the region. The 1960s were a pivotal decade for the steel industry in Wales, with the BSC works in Port Talbot being a key player. However, the environmental cost of this industrial growth was significant, as seen in this photograph. The image serves as a poignant reminder of the past, inviting reflection on the balance between economic development and environmental sustainability. It also offers a glimpse into the history of the town, which has since undergone significant transformation, with the BSC works now part of the Corus group and the town's economy diversifying beyond heavy industry.
