17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative image from the past, a determined box seller makes his way along the bustling pavement of London's Bond Street, his attention focused intently on the imposing facade of Benjamin Tabart's Juvenile Library. Established in 1804, Tabart's was an early and influential purveyor of fairy tales and nursery stories for children, making him a pioneer in the world of children's literature. The box seller, dressed in a simple yet practical outfit and wearing a distinctive hat, carries a large case slung over his shoulder. Inside, the boxes are filled with a variety of goods, from hats to household items, but it is the smaller hat boxes that are of particular interest. These intricately decorated containers would have once held the fashionable headgear of the day, and would have been highly prized by the shoppers of Bond Street. The seller's trade cry, long since lost to the annals of history, would have echoed through the streets, drawing the attention of potential customers. His presence on the street outside Tabart's library is a reminder of the interconnected nature of commerce and culture in 19th century London. The juxtaposition of the ancient art of storytelling and the more mundane business of selling boxes adds a layer of intrigue to this snapshot of a bygone era. This historical photograph, from the extensive collection of Mary Evans Prints Online, offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the simple act of selling boxes on the street could be an essential part of the literary and cultural landscape.
