1815 Waterloo Aisa

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative illustration by John Alkinson transports us back in time to the pivotal moment of the Battle of Waterloo on 18th June 1815. The historic event took place near the town of Waterloo in present-day Belgium, marking the final and decisive engagement of the Napoleonic Wars. Napoleon Bonaparte, the French Emperor, led his troops against the combined forces of the Seventh Coalition, comprised of British, Dutch, Belgian, and German soldiers, under the command of the Duke of Wellington and Prussian General Blücher. The battle raged for over ten hours, with both sides suffering heavy losses. In this image, the chaos and intensity of the battlefield come to life. Smoke rises from the gunpowder explosions, while soldiers from various regiments clash in hand-to-hand combat. Horses rear and charge, their hooves thundering on the ground. Amidst the turmoil, Napoleon is depicted on his white horse, Corsican, leading his troops into the fray. The Battle of Waterloo proved to be a turning point in European history. Napoleon was eventually forced to abdicate, leading to the end of his reign and the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in France. This defeat also marked the beginning of the Congress of Vienna and the subsequent redrawing of European borders. John Alkinson's masterful illustration offers a glimpse into the past, allowing us to experience the raw emotion and drama of one of history's most significant battles.
