1790 Angora Bewick Goat Goats Named Prized Silky Warm Made

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite 18th century print showcases a charming Angora Goat, specifically a Bewick breed, named after the town of Angora in Asia where these animals were first discovered. The Angora goat is renowned for its luxuriously soft and warm coat, which has been prized for centuries for producing high-quality, silky textiles. The historical significance of the Angora goat and its coat can be traced back to ancient civilizations, with records indicating that the art of Angora wool production dates back to 3000 BC. The intricately detailed print, produced in the late 1700s by Mary Evans Picture Library, captures the grace and beauty of the Angora goat in its natural habitat. The goat is depicted standing on a lush, green hillside, surrounded by a picturesque landscape. Its coat, which is typically white, is shown in its full glory, cascading down its body in soft, flowing waves. The Angora goat's expressive face and gentle demeanor add to the enchanting allure of this image. The Angora goat's coat is unique due to the presence of fine, crimped fibers that provide excellent insulation, making it an ideal choice for producing warm and comfortable clothing. The fibers are so fine that they can be spun into thread and woven into fabric, resulting in soft, lightweight, and luxurious textiles. The history of Angora wool production is rich and fascinating, with the art of wool processing and weaving evolving over time to produce a wide range of beautiful and functional textiles. This print serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of the Angora goat and its prized coat, which continues to captivate and inspire people around the world. The Angora goat remains an important part of the textile industry and a beloved symbol of the natural beauty and wonder of the animal kingdom.
