Alexander Darius Defeating Visits Arbela

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative image captures a poignant moment in the annals of ancient history: Alexander the Great (356-323 BC), the legendary Macedonian king and conqueror, taking a respite from the battlefield to visit his family following his decisive victory over Persian King Darius III at the Battle of Arbela in 333 BC. Alexander's military campaign against the Persian Empire, which began in 334 BC, had seen him successfully lead his troops through several significant battles, culminating in the Battle of Arbela, where Darius' forces were decisively defeated. With the Persian Empire on the brink of collapse, Alexander, who was deeply devoted to his family, took a brief leave from his military pursuits to be reunited with his loved ones. The scene depicted in this photograph is believed to have taken place in Greece, likely at the palace of his mother, Olympias. Alexander is shown in the center, dressed in his royal attire and wearing the diadem, a symbol of his kingship. His wife, Roxana, and their son, Alexander IV, are seated at his feet, while his mother, Olympias, stands behind him, her hand resting gently on his shoulder. The tender expression on Alexander's face and the loving gaze of his family towards him speak volumes about the deep emotional bonds that existed within the Alexander family. This historical moment serves as a poignant reminder of the human side of one of history's greatest conquerors, offering a glimpse into the personal life of a man who was revered for his military prowess and political acumen. The image, with its timeless beauty and emotional resonance, transports us back to the ancient world and invites us to reflect on the enduring power of family ties.
