31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative aerial photograph captures the industrial might and complexity of Tirpentwys Colliery in Pontypool, South Wales, as it appeared in 1908. The image offers a bird's-eye view of the sprawling coal mining complex, with its intricate network of buildings, equipment, and chimneys arranged in a seemingly chaotic yet ordered fashion. The dominant feature of the scene is the tall, black chimney, billowing smoke into the sky, a testament to the relentless energy and industry at work. The Edwardian-era colliery was a hub of activity, employing hundreds of miners and workers who toiled beneath the earth to extract the valuable coal that fueled the region's economy. The iron work and machinery that populate the scene are a reminder of the technological advancements that enabled the efficient and large-scale extraction of natural resources. Despite the impressive scale of the operation, the photograph also reveals the human element of the mining industry. The small, huddled buildings towards the bottom of the image likely housed the miners and their families, creating a community that was deeply intertwined with the colliery. The workers, dressed in their heavy coats and caps, would have made their way to and from the pit each day, their lives shaped by the rhythms of the mine. This aerial view provides a unique perspective on a historical moment in the rich industrial history of Wales, offering a glimpse into the past and the lives of those who worked in the coal mines of Pontypool.
