31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the charm of Hampstead Grove in winter, as captured by the lens of John Gay between January 1962 and May 1964. The scene is set with the skeletal branches of the pollarded trees stretching towards the sky, their bareness accentuating the seasonal transition. Fenton House, a historic 17th-century mansion, can be seen in the distance to the right, its red-brick facade standing proud against the wintry backdrop. People, bundled up against the cold, make their way along the pavement, their footsteps adding a sense of life and movement to the otherwise still scene. The cobblestones underfoot, worn smooth by the passage of time and countless footfalls, bear testament to the enduring character of this London street. The pollarding of the trees, a traditional practice that involves pruning the branches to a certain height to encourage new growth, is a recurring feature in Hampstead Grove. This not only adds to the unique aesthetic appeal of the area but also serves a practical purpose, as it helps to maintain the trees' health and longevity. The photograph invites us to pause and appreciate the beauty of this quintessentially British scene, with its historic architecture, seasonal transformation, and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. John Gay's skillful composition and mastery of light and shadow transport us back in time, offering a glimpse into the past and a reminder of the enduring charm of Hampstead Grove.
