Liberty and Co BL27070_014

LIBERTY S, Regent Street, London. Interior of Libertys newly completed Arts and Crafts Tudor style department store, showing the gallery and light well. This extraordinary building was constructed in 1922-24 using timbers from HMS Hindustan and HMS Impregnable. It was a remarkable reaction to the early twentieth century vogue for stone dressed steel-framed buildings. Designed by Edwin T. Hall and E. Stanley Hall. This photograph was commissioned by Higgs and Hill, builders. Photographed by Bedford Lemere and Co. in 1924

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of Liberty & Co, a renowned department store located on Regent Street in London. The interior of this newly completed Arts and Crafts Tudor style building is showcased, revealing its stunning gallery and light well. Constructed between 1922-24, this extraordinary structure was a remarkable departure from the prevailing architectural trend of stone dressed steel-framed buildings during the early twentieth century. Designed by Edwin T. Hall and E. Stanley Hall, this iconic department store stands as a testament to their visionary creativity. What makes it even more fascinating is that the timbers used in its construction were salvaged from two historic naval vessels - HMS Hindustan and HMS Impregnable. Commissioned by Higgs and Hill, builders at the time, this photograph was expertly captured by Bedford Lemere and Co. , offering us a glimpse into the past glory of Liberty & Co's interior space in 1924. With its rich history intertwined with craftsmanship and elegance, Liberty & Co continues to be an emblematic retail destination for discerning shoppers seeking unique experiences within its walls. This image serves as a reminder of how architecture can transcend time while preserving heritage for generations to come.
