Cornhill shops Bury St Edmunds MBC01_02_002

Boots, Cornhill, Bury St. Edmunds, West Suffolk. The Boots store and Post Office at 15 and 17-18 Cornhill.
The Boots store at 15 Cornhill was built in 1910-1911 and was designed by Michael Vyne Treleaven, Boots in-house architect. The first floor windows are flanked by statues of Agricola, St Edmund, Edward I and Edward VI, sculpted by Gilbert Seale and Son Ltd. The Post Office at 17-18 Cornhill was built in 1896 and was designed by H Tanner of H M Office of Works. In the early 2000s, 15 Cornhill was occupied by W H Smith. The Post Office later moved from 17-18 Cornhill to the same premises as W H Smith next door, and the original Post Office building was redeveloped in 2020 to create two commercial units and flats behind the original facade

31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Cornhill shops in Bury St Edmunds, West Suffolk. The focal point of the image is the distinguished Boots store and Post Office located at 15 and 17-18 Cornhill. Steeped in history, the Boots store was meticulously constructed between 1910 and 1911 by Michael Vyne Treleaven, an esteemed architect employed by Boots. Its first-floor windows are adorned with statues sculpted by Gilbert Seale and Son Ltd. , depicting notable figures such as Agricola, St Edmund, Edward I, and Edward VI. Adjacent to this architectural gem stands the Post Office building which dates back to 1896. Designed by H Tanner from H M Office of Works, it exudes a timeless charm that perfectly complements its surroundings. In more recent years, number 15 Cornhill became home to W H Smith while the Post Office relocated next door to join forces with them. The year 2020 witnessed a remarkable transformation as the original Post Office building underwent redevelopment behind its historic facade. Today it proudly presents two commercial units along with residential flats. This photograph not only captures these magnificent structures but also encapsulates the essence of a bustling market town with its vibrant high street filled with shops catering to various needs. It serves as a testament to both Victorian architecture and Bury St Edmunds' rich heritage as a historic town.
