Boston Etching Watercolour Massachusetts

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning etching and watercolor view of Boston Harbor, created by the German artist Franz Xaver Habermann in the 1770s, offers a captivating glimpse into the colonial past of America's oldest city. Habermann, a skilled artist and engraver, masterfully captured the natural beauty of the harbor and its surrounding landscape, with the sparkling water reflecting the vibrant colors of the ships and buildings that lined the shore. The image showcases the bustling activity of the harbor, with numerous vessels anchored or under sail, and the bustling town of Boston in the background. The neoclassical architecture of the buildings, including the Old State House and the Old South Meeting House, can be seen rising above the rooftops, a testament to the city's prosperity and sophistication during this period. Habermann's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to convey a sense of atmosphere make this work a valuable addition to any collection of historical American art. The artist's European perspective adds an intriguing layer to the image, as he captures the unique blend of Old World and New World influences that defined colonial America. This etching and watercolor is a rare and beautiful example of the graphic arts from the 18th century, and a fascinating window into the history of Boston and Massachusetts during the era of the American Revolution. The private collection in which it resides is fortunate to possess such a significant and evocative work of art.
