The temple of Isis and Osiris, The Magic Flute, 1816. Artist: Karl Friedrich Schinkel

The temple of Isis and Osiris, The Magic Flute, 1816. Stage design by Karl Freidrich Schinkel for The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflote), showing the courtyard of the temple of Isis and Osiris where Sarastro was High Priest. The opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) with libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder (1751-1812) was first produced in Vienna in 1791. The plot has overtones of Freemasonry. Some say Queen of the Night is based on the Empress Maria Theresa (1717-1780)

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite stage design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's renowned opera, "The Magic Flute". The image depicts the enchanting courtyard of the temple of Isis and Osiris, where Sarastro, the High Priest, resides. With its vibrant colors and intricate details, this stage set transports us to ancient Egypt. Schinkel's artistic genius is evident in his portrayal of Egyptian architecture, featuring a majestic pyramid that dominates the backdrop. The temple exudes an aura of mysticism and religious significance, reflecting both Mozart's libretto and Freemasonry undertones present in the plot. The presence of goddess Isis adds another layer of symbolism to this masterpiece. As a deity associated with magic and fertility in ancient Egyptian mythology, her inclusion enhances the mystical atmosphere surrounding "The Magic Flute". This print not only captures a moment from one of Mozart's most beloved operas but also serves as a testament to Schinkel's talent as a stage designer. Through his meticulous attention to detail and historical accuracy, he brings to life an era long gone. With its rich cultural references and stunning visuals, this print is not just an artwork; it is an invitation into a world where music intertwines with religion and history dances on stage.
