17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative black chalk and brown ink drawing by Claes Jansz Visscher, titled "Scene from Dutch Colony," transports us back to the 17th century and the bustling markets of the Dutch colonies. The intricately detailed image, held in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden, showcases the daily life of the Dutch settlers and their interactions with the local population. In the foreground, a group of Dutch men, dressed in traditional clothing, engage in lively trade negotiations with semi-nude native figures. One man carefully weighs goods on a set of scales, while another counts out coins. A third figure, possibly a merchant, consults a map spread out on a table. In the background, a bustling market scene unfolds, with figures of all races and genders haggling over goods and exchanging wares. The artist, Claes Jansz Visscher, masterfully captures the energy and diversity of this colonial scene. The drawing is a testament to the rich cultural exchange that took place during the Dutch colonial era. It is also a reminder of the complex and often fraught relationships between European settlers and the indigenous populations they encountered. Claes Jansz Visscher, a Dutch artist active in the Baroque period, created this work using a combination of black chalk pen and brown ink, washed in brown on paper. The monochrome palette adds to the drawing's sense of timelessness and historical authenticity. This drawing is a significant work in the heritage of European art, and a must-see for anyone interested in the history of colonialism, trade, and the Dutch colonies. It is a reminder of the complex and intriguing history of the Low Countries and their impact on the wider world.
