23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the ruins of Thebes, an ancient city located in the Boeotia region of Greece. Dating back to Mycenaean times (1600-1100 BC), Thebes was once a powerful city-state that played a significant role in Greek history. The photograph captures the essence of this historic site, showcasing its grandeur even in its ruined state. The image is taken from "Cassells Illustrated Universal History" a book by Edmund Ollier published in 1890. It portrays the remnants of what was once a thriving civilization, with intricate engravings and architectural details still visible amidst the decay. As we gaze upon this scene, we are reminded of Thebes' tumultuous past. In 480 BC, during Xerxes I's invasion, Thebes allied with Persians against their fellow Greeks. This decision marked a dark chapter for the city and left lasting scars on its reputation. The photo's monochrome aesthetic adds an air of mystery and nostalgia to the composition. Clouds loom overhead as if reflecting both the weathered nature of these ruins and the passage of time itself. Through this evocative image, we are transported to another era - one filled with ancient tales and forgotten stories waiting to be discovered among these crumbling walls. It serves as a poignant reminder that even after centuries have passed, echoes of our ancestors' lives can still be found etched into landscapes like these.
