17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Plate 64: Eleven Insects, Including a Dragonfly and Longhorn Beetle, c. 1575/1580, is a stunningly intricate and detailed watercolor and gouache illustration on vellum by the renowned Flemish artist Joris Hoefnagel. This masterpiece, which dates back to the sixteenth century, showcases an array of eleven different insects, each captured in exquisite detail. The centerpiece of this illustration is a magnificent dragonfly, its translucent wings spread wide and its delicate body poised in mid-flight. Surrounding the dragonfly are ten other insects, including a longhorn beetle, a stag beetle, and various bees, butterflies, and moths. Each insect is rendered with meticulous accuracy, their colors and textures brought to life through Hoefnagel's masterful use of watercolor and gouache. The illustration is framed within an ornate oval border in gold, adding an elegant and refined touch to the piece. Hoefnagel's attention to detail and his ability to capture the natural beauty of these insects is truly remarkable, making this work a testament to the artistic and scientific achievements of the sixteenth century. This illustration, which is believed to have been created between 1575 and 1580, is a valuable addition to any collection of European art, natural history, or science. It is currently housed in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., where it continues to inspire awe and admiration from visitors and scholars alike.
