17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Captivating the Village - The Bittersweet Tale of a Performing Bear in 19th Century Russia
EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print transports us back to a Russian village in 1877, where an enchanting and yet deeply poignant scene unfolds. A performing bear takes center stage, his presence evoking both awe and empathy. Hand-coloured later, this illustration from The Illustrated London News captures the essence of a bygone era. In this mesmerizing tableau, we witness the duality of human-animal relationships during that time period. While the bear's dance captivates onlookers with its grace and rhythm, it also serves as a metaphor for the cruelty inflicted upon animals for entertainment purposes. The musicians accompanying this performance add another layer to this narrative. A violinist skillfully draws melodies from his instrument while a drummer sets an infectious beat. Their music underscores both the joyous atmosphere and underlying sadness surrounding this spectacle. As we delve into this image further, we are reminded of the complex relationship between humans and nature throughout history. The Victorian-era setting emphasizes societal attitudes towards animals at that time – seen merely as objects for amusement rather than sentient beings deserving respect. This thought-provoking engraving challenges us to reflect upon our own treatment of animals today while appreciating it as an artistic representation of life in 19th century Russia. It stands as a testament to our evolving understanding of animal rights and serves as a reminder that compassion should always guide our interactions with all creatures great and small.
