Bonnet Johnston Rattle

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Caption: "Mrs. Jacob Hurd and Child, ca. 1762 - A Glimpse into 18th Century Motherhood". This oil painting by William Johnston offers a poignant glimpse into the life of Mrs. Jacob Hurd and her child in the mid-18th century America. The portrait showcases a woman adorned in elegant attire, donning a fashionable bonnet with delicate lace trimmings that accentuate her refined taste. The mother's tender gaze towards her child reveals an unbreakable bond between them, capturing the essence of maternal love and devotion during this era. The young child, held securely in his mother's arms, clutches onto a rattle as he gazes curiously at the world around him. The artist skillfully captures not only their physical appearance but also hints at their social standing through their clothing choices. Mrs. Jacob Hurd is dressed in an exquisite dress that reflects both her personal style and societal expectations of fashion during this period. Set against a serene country backdrop, this painting transports us back to an era where parenting was cherished and celebrated with grace and elegance. It serves as a testament to the enduring beauty of motherhood throughout history. Displayed within the hallowed halls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), this remarkable piece allows viewers to immerse themselves in American heritage art while appreciating William Johnston's masterful brushstrokes that bring these figures to life once more.
