King, queen, and court, c1450, (1910)

King, queen, and court, c1450, (1910). The turban headdress was in vogue for a considerable period, and was undoubtedly based on an Oriental model, as during the early part of its use a very common ornament for its decoration was the crescent which appears to point to a Turkish origin. It was of light construction despite its bulk, composed of a wire framework over which was stretched silk or other material, of the richest description. Illustration from British Costume during 19 Centuries by Mrs Charles H Ashdown, (London, 1910)

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "King, queen, and court, c1450" takes us back to the medieval era. The image showcases a regal couple surrounded by their courtiers in elaborate costumes. The king stands tall wearing a majestic crown while his queen exudes elegance with her ornate dress and headdress. The turban headdress worn by the queen was undoubtedly influenced by Oriental fashion trends of that time. Its light construction belies its impressive size, featuring a wire framework covered in luxurious silk or other exquisite materials. A crescent ornament adorns the headdress, hinting at its possible Turkish origin. Every detail in this illustration from British Costume during 19 Centuries is meticulously captured by Emily Jessie Ashdown's skilled hand. The fur-trimmed garments of both men and women reflect the opulence associated with royalty during the fifteenth century. As we delve into this snapshot of history, we are transported to an enchanting world where kings ruled over vast kingdoms and queens were adorned with extravagant attire. This print not only captures the essence of medieval fashion but also provides insight into cultural influences that shaped England's sartorial choices during that period. Emily Jessie Ashdown's expertise as an artist shines through in this monochrome masterpiece. Through her work, she brings to life a moment frozen in time - one that allows us to appreciate the grandeur and splendor of royal courts from centuries past.
