The Holy Shroud - Imprint of the Body: Front View, 1902. Creator: Unknown

The Holy Shroud - Imprint of the Body: Front View, 1902. The Turin Shroud, claimed by some to be the burial cloth that Jesus was wrapped in after crucifixion, is now widely believed to be a hoax. 23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Holy Shroud - Imprint of the Body: Front View, 1902. This print showcases the enigmatic Turin Shroud, believed by some to be the burial cloth that enveloped Jesus after his crucifixion. However, modern research has cast doubt on its authenticity, suggesting it is a cleverly crafted hoax from the late 14th century. Captured in exquisite detail by an unknown creator, this image allows us to contemplate the profound concept of faith and its connection to religious relics. The shroud's monochrome depiction reveals a haunting imprint of a body, evoking thoughts of Christ's sacrifice and our Savior's journey through death. Originally published in 'The English Illustrated Magazine' in 1902 by T. Fisher Unwin Ltd. , this photograph transports us back to a time when belief in such relics was fervent. It serves as a reminder of humanity's enduring fascination with spirituality and our eternal quest for divine connection. While debates surrounding its authenticity persist, there is no denying the historical significance and cultural impact of the Holy Shroud of Turin. As we gaze upon this relic captured over a century ago, we are invited to explore not only its medieval origins but also our own beliefs and doubts about matters beyond comprehension.
