17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the fashionable style of hair-dressing during the reigns of Charles I and II in the 17th century. Taken from Elisabeth McClellan's book "History of American Costume - Book One 1607-1800", this image showcases a stunning illustration that transports us back to a time when intricate hairstyles were an essential part of women's fashion. The subject, with her brown hair elegantly styled, presents a side view portrait that highlights the intricacy and artistry involved in creating these elaborate hairdos. The attention to detail is evident in every strand carefully arranged into an exquisite coiffure. A collar frames her face, adding a touch of sophistication to her overall look. As we delve into history through this photograph, we are reminded of the cultural significance attached to fashion during this period. Hairstyles were not merely about personal grooming but served as statements of social status and identity. The juxtaposition between the 17th-century hairstyle depicted in this image and its publication date in 1937 adds another layer to its historical value. It serves as a testament to how trends from centuries ago continue to inspire and influence contemporary fashion. Through this remarkable piece by an unknown artist, we are transported back in time, gaining insight into the sartorial choices that defined eras long gone. This print is not just an artistic representation; it is a window into our collective past, reminding us that fashion has always been intertwined with culture and society throughout history.
