17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Dream, 1888

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating and haunting artwork that transports viewers to the battlefields of war-torn France in the 19th century. Created by Jean Baptiste Edouard Detaille, this color print captures the essence of warfare with remarkable detail and emotion. In this mesmerizing scene, we see a soldier peacefully sleeping amidst an encampment under the night sky. As dawn breaks on the horizon, a ghostly figure emerges from his dream - a fallen comrade who lost his life in battle. The soldier's rifle lies beside him as he remains oblivious to the presence of death lingering nearby. Detaille's mastery lies not only in his ability to depict military precision but also in conveying deeper themes such as sacrifice, mortality, and the surreal nature of dreams. The contrast between light and dark symbolizes hope amidst despair while highlighting the fleeting nature of life during times of conflict. This artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost associated with armed conflicts throughout history. It invites us to contemplate our own mortality and reflect upon how war shapes individuals and nations alike. "The Dream" stands as a testament to Detaille's artistic brilliance and his commitment to capturing both historical accuracy and emotional depth within his work. This print continues to captivate audiences today with its powerful imagery that transcends time and speaks directly to our collective consciousness about humanity's enduring struggle for peace.
