17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Death of Cato" is a captivating painting by Gioacchino Assereto, created around 1640. This masterpiece can be found in the esteemed collection of Musei di Strada Nuova in Genoa, Italy. Assereto, a prominent artist of the Baroque era, skillfully captures the tragic moment when Cato uticensis takes his own life. The canvas depicts an intense scene filled with emotion and symbolism. Cato the Younger, a renowned Roman statesman and philosopher from ancient times, stands at the center of attention. His face reflects determination rather than despair as he prepares to end his life to preserve his honor and freedom. Assereto's meticulous brushwork brings every detail to life - from the folds of Cato's garments to the shadows cast upon his face. The use of oil paints adds depth and richness to this allegorical representation. This painting not only showcases Assereto's technical prowess but also highlights his profound understanding of mythology, literature, and history. Through "The Death of Cato" viewers are reminded of timeless themes such as sacrifice for principles and individual agency against oppressive forces. As part of the School of Genoa movement that emphasized naturalism and dramatic lighting effects, Assereto masterfully conveys both physical reality and emotional intensity within this composition. "The Death of Cato" remains an enduring testament to Assereto's artistic genius while serving as a poignant reminder that even in death one can find dignity.
