17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Two Cows and a Sheep

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating etching by the renowned Dutch artist Adriaen van de Velde, created around 1657 or 1659. This exquisite work of art transports us back to the idyllic countryside of the Baroque era, inviting us to witness a simple yet profound moment in rural life. The composition features two cows, their powerful forms rendered with remarkable detail and texture, grazing peacefully in a lush, green pasture. Their heavy, drooping heads and relaxed postures convey a sense of contentment and tranquility. A solitary sheep, its coat a mix of grey and white, stands nearby, observing the cows with curiosity. The animals' natural surroundings are equally captivating, with the rolling hills, verdant foliage, and clear, blue sky creating a breathtaking backdrop. Adriaen van de Velde's masterful use of contrast and tonal variations in this black and white etching adds depth and dimension to the scene, further emphasizing the beauty and richness of rural life during the seventeenth century. This evocative work of art is a testament to the enduring appeal of the rural landscape and the role of animals in agriculture, making it an invaluable addition to any art collection or exhibition. Originating from the Low Countries, "Two Cows and a Sheep" is a prime example of the regionalism and rural scene depictions that characterized the Baroque era. Today, this work can be found in the esteemed collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., where it continues to inspire and delight visitors from around the world.
