23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "Pipers of the 1st Scots Guards, 1896" takes us back to a bygone era in British military history. The image showcases three distinguished pipers from the renowned regiment, captured with remarkable detail by artist Gregory & Co. At the center stands Pipe-Major Fraser, exuding authority and pride as he leads his fellow musicians. Flanking him on either side are Piper James Pourie and Piper John Gordon, both donning traditional Scottish highland dress complete with kilts, tartan patterns, and sporran pouches. The trio's intense focus is palpable as they prepare to unleash their melodic prowess upon their audience. The bagpipes held firmly against their chests symbolize not only their musical talent but also the rich cultural heritage they represent. This print was originally featured in The Navy and Army Illustrated magazine on January 3rd, 1896. It serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Scotland's proud military traditions during the late nineteenth century. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time, we can almost hear the hauntingly beautiful melodies that these brave soldiers once played on distant battlefields or during ceremonial events. Their dedication to duty and love for music shine through every line etched into this monochrome masterpiece. Gregory & Co's artistry has allowed us to glimpse into a momentous chapter of British history while paying homage to these gallant men who proudly served their country as both warriors and musicians.
