17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Battle of Texel, 1673 - A Glimpse into Naval Warfare in the 17th Century

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This color print, created by Eugene Louis Gabriel Isabey and featured in Walter Hutchinson's 'Story of the British Nation, ' takes us back to a tumultuous moment in history. The scene depicts the fierce naval battle that unfolded off the coast of Texel, Holland, during the year 1673. In this vivid portrayal, choppy waters and billowing flags set the stage for an intense conflict between English and Dutch forces. Warships engage in a deadly dance as they navigate through treacherous seas. The artist masterfully captures both the chaos and grandeur of this historic event. The Battle of Texel marked a significant turning point in maritime warfare during the seventeenth century. It was here that Dutch admiral Maarten Tromp tragically lost his life while fighting against England's navy. This clash not only showcased strategic prowess but also highlighted national pride and territorial ambitions. Isabey's attention to detail brings each ship to life, emphasizing their importance as symbols of power and dominance on these vast oceans. The vibrant colors add depth to this dramatic scene, immersing viewers in an era defined by epic battles at sea. As we gaze upon this remarkable print from the 1920s, we are reminded of how historical events shape our present-day understanding of war and conflict. It serves as a testament to human resilience amidst adversity while offering insight into naval warfare
