23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "LONDON: CASUAL WARD, 1869" takes us back in time to the gritty streets of Victorian London. The image depicts a group of individuals gathered outside a casual ward, seeking admission and relief from their dire circumstances. Engraved in 1869 by an unknown artist after Sir Luke Fildes' painting, this engraving offers a glimpse into the harsh realities faced by those living in poverty during this era. The scene is filled with poignant details that speak volumes about daily life for the less fortunate. Dilapidated buildings line the street, serving as a backdrop to the diverse group of people waiting patiently for assistance. Their worn-out clothing and tired expressions reveal the hardships they endure on a regular basis. Sir Luke Fildes masterfully captures these moments of vulnerability and desperation through his meticulous brushwork. His attention to detail allows us to immerse ourselves in this snapshot of history, evoking empathy for those struggling against societal inequalities. As we observe this engraving today, it serves as a reminder of how far society has come in terms of social welfare and support systems. It also prompts us to reflect on our responsibility towards addressing poverty and ensuring equal opportunities for all members of our community. This powerful image from The Granger Collection invites contemplation on themes such as resilience, compassion, and progress while honoring the artistic legacy left behind by Sir Luke Fildes.
