Wild Watermelons in the Desert

Wild watermelons called Tsamma melons can store large amounts of water. They grow in the desert in Africa and Australia. Although they are not sweet they are an important resource for the indigenous people of Kalahari and Sahara because of their water content. They are also food for camels and other desert animals

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Wild Watermelons in the Desert" showcases the remarkable Tsamma melons thriving in the arid landscapes of Africa and Australia. Despite their lack of sweetness, these wild watermelons play a vital role as a source of water for both indigenous communities in Kalahari and Sahara and desert-dwelling animals like camels. The image captures the essence of freshness and growth, with vibrant colors that contrast beautifully against the barren backdrop. The vertical composition allows us to appreciate the sheer size and abundance of these uncultivated fruits, which are scattered amidst rocky formations and sandy terrain. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are transported to remote destinations like Tadrart Acacus in Libya or other travel-worthy spots across Africa. The absence of people adds an air of solitude, emphasizing nature's resilience even in extreme climates. Federica Grassi's photography skillfully captures this unique landscape where creeper plants intertwine with mountains while clear skies illuminate every detail. It serves as a reminder that even within harsh environments, life finds a way to adapt and flourish. This stunning artwork is not just visually appealing but also holds cultural significance as it sheds light on the symbiotic relationship between humans, wildlife, and nature itself. As an observer, we can't help but marvel at Mother Nature's ability to provide sustenance even in seemingly inhospitable conditions.
