Three moai half buried in a quarry, Easter island
Rano Raraku was a quarry for about 500 years until the early eighteenth century, and supplied the stone from which about 95% of the islands known monolithic sculptures (moai) were carved. Rano Raraku is a visual record of moai design vocabulary and technological innovation, where 397 moai remain. Rano Raraku is in the World Heritage Site of Rapa Nui National Park and gives its name to one of the seven sections of the park

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the serene beauty of three moai statues, half buried in a quarry on Easter Island. Known as Rano Raraku, this site served as a quarry for an astonishing 500 years until the early eighteenth century. It provided the stone from which approximately 95% of the island's iconic monolithic sculptures were carved. Today, Rano Raraku stands as a testament to both the design vocabulary and technological innovation employed by ancient artisans. Located within the World Heritage Site of Rapa Nui National Park, this section is named after its remarkable quarry. With 397 moai still standing tall amidst lush green grass, it offers a visual record of history frozen in time. The past comes alive through these majestic figures that represent human representation at its finest. The tranquility emanating from this image is enhanced by vibrant colors brought to life under sunlight and shadow play. As you gaze upon this photograph, you can almost feel yourself transported back in time to witness firsthand the mining efforts that shaped Easter Island's rich cultural heritage. With no people present in the frame, one can truly appreciate these ancient wonders against their natural backdrop. This international landmark holds immense historical significance and has rightfully earned its place as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Photo by Volanthevist showcases not only their artistic talent but also their ability to capture moments that transcend time itself.
