Racing study

A series of photographs showing a horse galloping. This series of action studies of a horse galloping established that horses do, at one point in this pace, have all four feet off the ground as proven by Eadweard Muybridge (1830 - 1904), English born American photographer and inventor. Original Artwork: From Animal Locomotion, volume 9 - pub. 1887. (Photo by Eadweard Muybridge/Getty Images)

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a series of action studies showcasing the graceful and powerful movement of a galloping horse. Taken by the pioneering photographer and inventor Eadweard Muybridge, this artwork is part of his groundbreaking project "Animal Locomotion" published in 1887. Muybridge's meticulous chronophotography techniques revealed that during certain moments in its gallop, a horse has all four feet off the ground—a revolutionary discovery at the time. In this image, we witness the sheer athleticism of these majestic creatures as they race through space with unparalleled elegance. The horizontal format emphasizes their fluid motion while adding depth to the composition. Each frame within this series showcases a single moment frozen in time, allowing us to appreciate every nuance and detail. Muybridge's work not only revolutionized our understanding of equine locomotion but also paved the way for advancements in photography and silent film during his era. This archival piece serves as a testament to his innovative spirit and artistic vision. Whether you are an admirer of animal themes or simply fascinated by early photographic innovations, this mesmerizing print will undoubtedly captivate your imagination. It is an exquisite addition to any art collection or decor scheme, offering both historical significance and aesthetic allure.
