23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Harvesting Tobacco In Early Virginia - A Glimpse into Colonial Farm Life

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures a pivotal moment in the history of early Virginia, showcasing three diligent farm workers as they toil under the scorching sun to harvest tobacco leaves on a sprawling plantation. Painted by National Park Service artist Sydney King, this image transports us back to circa 1612, providing a rare glimpse into the daily lives of English settlers and their agricultural practices. The scene unfolds against a picturesque backdrop; farm buildings stand tall amidst lush greenery while an anchored sailing ship graces the river behind them. The presence of this vessel hints at the importance of trade and commerce during that era. Intriguing details abound within this painting – from the sturdy oxen pulling carts laden with harvested tobacco leaves, to the colonial-style fences enclosing vast fields. The male and female farmers depicted here symbolize both hard work and gender equality in early American society. As we immerse ourselves in this historical snapshot, it becomes evident that tobacco played a significant role in shaping Virginia's economy and identity during its formative years as a colony. This image serves as a reminder of how agriculture served as the backbone for these pioneering settlers, laying down roots for future generations. With its meticulous attention to detail and rich narrative quality, this print is not just an exquisite piece of art but also an invaluable window into our collective past.
