Race To Scotland; Imperial Airways Bi-plane, the City of Glasgow, flying over

16th June 1928: Imperial Airways bi-plane, the City of Glasgow, flying over the River Tweed at Berwick during a race to Scotland against the LNER Pacific class steam locomotive The Flying Scotsman. The locomotive pictured is in fact the Junior Scotsman, which the pilot had temporarily confused with the Scotsman. (Photo by London Express/Getty Images)

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Race to Scotland - A Historic Encounter in the Skies and on Rails

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures a thrilling moment in history, as Imperial Airways' bi-plane, the City of Glasgow, soars gracefully over the picturesque River Tweed at Berwick. It was taken on June 16th, 1928, during an exhilarating race against the renowned LNER Pacific class steam locomotive - The Flying Scotsman. However, what makes this image truly unique is the unexpected twist that unfolded. As fate would have it, the pilot momentarily mistook another locomotive for The Flying Scotsman. In fact, it was none other than its junior counterpart - Junior Scotsman! This amusing mix-up adds a touch of humor to an already extraordinary event. The photograph showcases not only two remarkable modes of transportation but also highlights their significance in shaping our world's history. It symbolizes a time when air travel was still in its infancy and railways reigned supreme as vital arteries connecting nations. Imperial Airways played a pivotal role in revolutionizing long-distance travel by air while The Flying Scotsman epitomized speed and luxury on land. Together they embarked on this epic race from England to Scotland – an embodiment of progress and innovation. As we gaze upon this archival masterpiece captured by London Express photographers nearly a century ago, we are transported back to an era where technology met adventure head-on. Let us marvel at this snapshot frozen in time; an ode to human ingenuity and determination that forever
