17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage engraving from 1870, created by Gustave Dore, captures a scene from the Old Testament that depicts the tragic fate of a Disobedient Prophet slain by a Lion. The print showcases an ancient civilization in historical Palestine and portrays the extreme terrain of a wilderness area. With its intricate details and classical style, this engraved image transports us back to a time period when spirituality played a significant role in people's lives. The black and white illustration evokes a sense of old-fashioned charm while highlighting the profound failure of rebellion against divine commandments. As we gaze upon the lifeless body of the prophet lying before the majestic lion, we are reminded of humanity's place within nature and our responsibility to heed higher powers. Through this art piece, Duncan1890 invites us to reflect on concepts such as obedience, faithfulness, and consequences. It serves as both an homage to religious texts like the Bible and an exploration of indigenous cultures' beliefs. Gustave Dore's masterful etching skillfully captures not only human emotions but also brings alive animals like lions – powerful symbols representing strength and majesty. This print is not just an artistic representation; it is also an invitation to delve into ancient history and explore how religion shaped societies during that time. As we admire this antique artwork today, it continues to serve as a timeless reminder that disobedience can lead one down treacherous paths with dire consequences – lessons still relevant in our modern world.
