Canons Dutch Flag Engagement Escaping Firing Fleeing Sails Sinking

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Sea Battle of the Anglo-Dutch Wars - A Fierce Clash on Canvas

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this oil painting by Willem van de Velde, the Younger, we are transported back to the tumultuous era of the Anglo-Dutch Wars. The scene unfolds with breathtaking intensity as two mighty naval forces collide in a battle for supremacy. With meticulous attention to detail, Van de Velde captures every aspect of this maritime engagement. Ships adorned with billowing sails and flying flags fill the canvas, their cannons roaring and smoke engulfing the air. The deafening sound of gunfire reverberates across the sea as sailors valiantly fight for their respective nations. The Dutch flag proudly flutters atop some vessels while others bear the British colors, symbolizing national pride and unwavering loyalty. Amidst chaos and destruction, ships can be seen sinking into unforgiving depths while desperate sailors attempt to flee or rescue their comrades. This artwork not only showcases Van de Velde's exceptional talent but also serves as a testament to an era defined by conflict at sea. It immortalizes a pivotal moment in history when nations clashed over power and dominance on vast oceans. As we gaze upon this remarkable print from Yale Center for British Art's Paul Mellon Collection, we cannot help but marvel at its ability to transport us through time. It reminds us of humanity's unyielding spirit amidst adversity—a timeless reminder that echoes beyond mere brushstrokes on canvas.
